Our First Firehall Visit
December 30,2014 - Coquitlam Fire/Rescue Firehall #1
The purpose of this visit was to see if we could get an off duty firefighter to help us with the filming of Santa and His Super Hero. What we got was so unexpected.
When we walked into the firehall, we first met with Fire Captain Jason Miller. Nathan and I explained the book to him and how we are planning on giving the proceeds of the book to the BC Processional Fire Fighters Association Burn Fund. Captain Miller took me to his office as Lucie and Nathan went with a couple of firefighters to see the trucks.
First Captain Miller read through the book. Then he asked me to join my family as he took the book up to show the Fire Chief. When I got to Nathan and Lucie, Nathan was sitting in the fire engine. This wasn't Nathan's first time sitting in a fire truck but it was the first time that he had a firehall visit and was able to ask questions about the trucks. Nathan has always called firefighters Super Heroes but this was the first time that I saw him actually show a keen interest in the trucks and what they do.
Soon after Captain Miller came to us and told us that he wasn't going to allow off duty firefighters to come to the house for the filming. He arranged to get an entire crew of 4 firefighters to drive the engine to our house. He also said that he was off duty that day and would come by the house just n case the crew got called away.
What a great experience we had for our first firehall visit.
